Vintage Kids Apron/Pinafore from Sweden

A sketch of a vintage (sixties) kids apron or pinafore from Sweden. Lovely clear blue check fabric with a rounded ruffle on the hem, broad red bias tape. Ties on the back just above the waist with a button and closes at the back with a loop and bottom. Pocket on the front is the same fabric as the rest but checks are placed diagonally.Because I have to give back the original to my friend *snif* I thought I’d make a sketch (and share it) and make one for my daughter one day.

How lovely- Thanks for the sketches! I think we could copy from that, for sure. Are the bias-bound edges down the sides completely separate and open? And is there ruffle at the back?

You’re welcome! The sides are open the only thing joining them are the ties that go round to the back of the apron. The apron (or pinafore) hasn’t got any ruffles at the back.

Thanks, Nicole- I am sure I will end up doing something like this for Brenna. I often get the urge to design & make a garment myself, without a commercial pattern, that is, and it would have to be fairly simple like this, as a first attempt, as I don’t have formal background. Your sketching is great- I always used to be drawing, (when very young), and should get back to that a bit. You could illustrate a sewing book!
