And I am sexualizing kids? Don’t look at me. Blame Texas for trying to turn kids into pervs. I’m not the one claiming they’re all horny little bastards.

Summertime, kids and garden toys go hand in hand. During summer, parents and children spend the majority of their time outdoors. This is why it’s important to have plenty of garden toys for your kids to play with or ride on. It’s no fun to go outside if you do not have something to play with.

Garden toys bring kids enjoyment and fun. Trying to decide between the many garden toys can be very difficult if your kids have interests that span many items. Here is a rundown of the best garden toys for your kids during the summer.

Kids like to climb high just for the thrill of it and that is a great reason to buy a climbing frame. Climbing frames offer kids the excitement of climbing to the top and sliding down the attached sliding board. Climbing frames can become your kid’s castle, jungle tree or cave for exploration. No matter how your kids use climbing frames they will have loads of fun during summer months.

Another exceptional garden toy is a trampoline. When this is set up for kids to play on, they get exercise and fun rolled into one. Kids can jump, flip and bounce up and down while having fun on a trampoline. Accidents can occur while using it so make sure the trampoline you buy comes with an enclosure. The enclosure is high enough to catch and protect your child while he or she is having fun. If they bounce high enough and flip over to the side the enclosure will catch them so they don’t fall off the trampoline. A safety precaution really keeps accidents from occurring.

Garden toys bring joy and fun together when kids have swing sets to play on. A swing set placed in the garden area will add a sense of fun and amusement. Kids will want to swing for hours on end or slide down the sliding board with their best friend or sibling. On many swing sets there are bars that kids can climb across or hang from. This makes them feel like they are climbing trees in a jungle or climbing up across a ladder.

Another excellent garden toy for kids is a kitchen play set placed on the patio near your garden. This gives kids the illusion of cooking with their parents when they cook on the grill. It has real sounds of cooking that make a child’s eyes light up with enthusiasm.

Garden toys will always be fun and exciting for kids. Parents can sit back and watch their kids have fun knowing they have purchased the right toys for their garden that will give hours upon hours of enjoyment. There will never be a dull moment in your garden as long as toys are involved. What are you waiting for? Get out there and plan your garden toy event for your kids. They and you will be glad you did. Show your kids how much you love them by filling your garden with toys they will cherish.

THE USED KIMONO SELLER — Recycled Fashions for Kids and Adults in Old Japan
kids

I have no comments on the Kimonos in the photo. You Kimono nuts looking at this already know WAY more than I do about them !

This photo is older than most on my photostream. Ca.1870s, it was taken around 135 years ago, when guys were still wearing the "Chonmage" hairstyle you see. Although such top-knot hairstyles were actually prohibited during the early 1870s, the Government was not stringent about enforcing it, and it can still be seen on many young men in images made throughout the 1870s, and even on some really old characters in the 1880s.

What does it take to make the fanciest Kimonos ? How much do they cost TODAY ?

"………[A Wedding Kimono] begins a single strip of white Japanese silk. It takes months, sometimes even years, and as many as 50 people to transform the silk into the finished garment…….Each kimono is a testament to the needle skills of the people who made it……..[Wedding Kimonos] cost anywhere from ,000 to ,000……"

Isn’t summer fun? Sunshine, warmer weather, time with family and friends; not to mention holidays, fireworks and picnics! Kids live their greatest adventures, and parents have the opportunity to vicariously relive their childhood dreams. For work at home parents, however, summer represents a whole new set of challenges. Running a business from home can be tough enough without having to worry about keeping the kids entertained. Here are some ideas of summer activities for kids of work at home parents meant to help all of you have the best summer ever.

Let’s Get Cooking!

When kids are home all day, they have a tendency to gravitate towards the kitchen anyway. So, why not take advantage of that. Plan different kid-friendly recipes like chocolate chip cookies, pancakes, rice cereal treats or pizza. Get everything set up at their level, or get a couple of stepping stools for the little ones. Then, get cooking! Kids love the “experiment-like” nature of cooking, plus getting a bit messy is always fun! An added bonus is that older kids will be able to duplicate the process, which can be a great help when you’re a bit behind on work!

Go Green!

Recycle, reduce, reuse! Practice all three this summer. Schedule a trip to your local recycling plant. I know that sounds strange, but kids are so naturally curious they will love seeing this process. If you plan ahead, you can contact the recycling plant and schedule a structured tour of the facilities. Take full advantage of your efforts by partnering with other work at home parents who might want to join the adventure with their kids. The larger the number of people in the group, the better chance you have of securing a scheduled tour.

After your trip to the recycling plant, why not teach your kids how to reuse some “trash.” Set up a tiny lab and make some recycled paper. It’s a lot easier to do than you might think, and you can find complete instructions here: http://www.funsci.com/fun3_en/paper/paper.htm.

Another neat reusing project is making grocery totes out of old t-shirts. All you do is turn the shirt inside out. Then, cut off the sleeves, and make a straight cut across the chest area of the shirt. Sew or use sewing tape to seal the cut edge. Open the sleeve so they are a rectangular piece of fabric and sew it together long ways. Turn these inside out to make a straw-like piece that will become the handles. Saw each handle to either side of your tote and turn right side out. Now, your kids can go crazy decorating the totes.

Take It Outside!

Why not plant a garden? Take the bikes out to the local trail. It’s always fun to go for a swim or to the park. You can also plan a family road trip. Take full advantage of the nice summer weather. If you have a beach nearby, an early trip during the week will help you avoid the crowds. Explore your town. Take the kids to historical or well-known places in your area. If you are creative and have a little extra time, you can plan a scavenger or treasure hunt. My all-time favorite outdoor activity, though, is having a cookout. Fire up that grill, invite a couple of neighbors, and you have an instant summer party!

Some Sanity Savers

Ok, now that you have a few ideas of summer activities for kids it’s time to tackle the “working parents” part. Yes, it’s fun and exciting to be home with the kids, but it can also be nerve wracking when you have a to-do list that’s a mile long and can’t get any work done. So here are some tips to help you on that department as well.

Make a schedule – be flexible, but if you schedule your day you will invariably get more done!
Create a network – having a support group of other work at home parents is always helpful. If they are relatively close by, you could even make arrangements to “exchange” kids during the week. One day your kids go to their house, the next day their kids come to yours. You get the idea!
Enlist Friends and Family – there’s no shame in asking for help. Most of the time relatives who have planned trips or outings would love to take your kids along, provided you ship in for the costs! Grandparents are also a great tool. They are always happy to have some time to pamper the grandkids!
Lose the Super Hero Complex – you are not now, nor will you ever be, superhuman, so don’t try to be. Recognize your limitations and don’t overdo it. Delegate, prioritize, and don’t be afraid to let some things go! If it is not absolutely essential, it can wait until tomorrow, or maybe even until fall!

There you have it. Take some time to plan and prioritize your summer activities. Incorporate some of the summer activities for kids listed above into your weekly schedule. Have fun and never forget that your kids are more than likely the reason you started working from home in the first place. Enjoy each other and the rest will fall into place.

Today’s parents are increasingly turning to kids’ boutique clothing for their little ones instead of purchasing mass produced children’s clothing from department stores or chain stores. Although designer kids clothing has always been a successful niche market, more parents than ever are turning to designer duds as a way to guarantee their children are dressed in outfits that look great, feel great, and stand the test of time. In fact, kids boutique clothing is quickly becoming as much of an industry as haute couture or designer labels for adults.

Investing In Quality

In today’s increasingly budget conscious world, parents have realized the value of purchasing quality clothing that lasts rather than buying clothing that quickly falls apart or doesn’t hold up to the rigors of children’s active lives. Some children’s clothing simply can’t stand up to the wear and tear dished out by kids, and many mass market outfits fall apart, shrink, or fade after just a few washings. It’s a frustrating cycle that leads to the purchase of more clothing that inevitably ends up in the rag pile.

Department store clothing may seem like a bargain until you pull it from the dryer and see that it has shrunk too small to be worn or that the color has faded from a vibrant, rich shade to a pale imitation of itself that kids don’t want to wear. Kids boutique clothing, on the other hand, is made from the finest natural fabrics and is designed to stand up to even the most adventurous activities, best of all it’s affordable high quality and very stylish.

Hand-me downs used to be a normal part of growing up, but in recent years the poor quality of most children’s clothing meant clothes wore out before they could be handed down. Kids boutique clothing has turned wearing hand-me-downs into a luxury that younger sisters look forward to – they can’t wait to strut their stuff in beautiful outfits that look like new even after their big sister has outgrown them.

Comfortable Kids Boutique Clothing Is a Favorite

Buying clothes your kids hate wearing is an exercise in futility. If you buy poorly made kids clothes, you will quickly learn that children are the most stubborn creatures on the planet. Scratchy seams, uneven hems, and poorly made clothes can be torture for children. It’s one of the main reasons young children quickly learn to hate “dressing up.” Fortunately, if you invest in the right designer kids clothing, your kids will be happy to dress up and show off their style. Kids boutique clothing features thoughtful touches like taped seams, all natural materials like cotton, and careful construction. All of these details add up to clothing that is a joy to wear, soft against the skin and perfectly fitted, but very reasonably priced making both parent and child very happy.

Stylish Clothing Makes a Statement

Children are savvier than ever when it comes to fashion. Most kids have a strong sense of style and want to make a statement with their clothes that sets them apart from the crowd and celebrates their originality. Buying clothes at chain stores doesn’t give these budding fashionistas the chance to express themselves with their clothing, but kids boutique clothing offers unique styles, colors, and designs for every taste. If you have a little princess at your house, dressing her in designer kids clothing is one way to let her express her inner diva.

If you have a child who loves clothes and wants to stand out from the crowd, kids boutique clothing is the perfect combination of high quality, style, and function. Investing in top quality designer kids clothing is a savvy and stylish decision both you and your kids will appreciate.

Internet is a believed to be a remarkable source through which school going kids can look for their desired information. This information helps in enhancing their learning skills thereby enhancing in their career development. Hence, you’ll find kids devoting ample time over the internet. But there are innumerable risks involved such as porn websites as well as other explicit content found on different renowned websites. This isn’t all, there are various videos uploaded on YouTube that are offensive and are in no way suitable for your kid. In other instances, you will find kids talking to strangers online and revealing their personal details top them. So, how to protect you kid from such internet activities? You need to keep an eye on what your kids hear and see on the internet, who they interact with and not to mention what details they share with others. In other words, when it comes to child monitoring, you need to first of all find out are there internet activities that your kid is involved in? Now, how to do so? Well, the below mentioned steps may come to your help…

*Go to the browsing history and find out which websites your kid has surfed. However, before taking up this step, you can discuss with your kid as well. Ask him or her frankly about the sites they have surfed. If they are confident, there’s nothing to worry but if you find them nervous, you have something to worry. At this juncture, you need to browse the web history that your kid has visited.*Don’t leave the computer or laptop in your kid’s room. Instead what you can do is place the computer in your living room or in any common area of your house. This will help you to keep an eye on your kid as well as his internet activities.*For reviewing the internet history, you need to log onto the computer using the same user account your kid uses. Go to Firefox, Mozilla or Internet explorer to check what websites your kid has saved in the favorites. In addition to this, you need to also check the sites that are saved in the history.*You can also install monitoring software that will alert you in case your kid surfs an inappropriate website. But before you take up any step you need to take into consideration a couple of things:*Ensure consulting your kid as well as discussing your rules and concerns pertaining to internet usage*If you want to install a monitoring software make sure your kid knows about it, there’s nothing to hide

I have included here some of the ideal ways through which you can know whether your kid is in the right track or has he fallen prey into the hands of illicit websites. But above all, I would suggest you to talk to your kid before taking up any measure. Trust your kid and teach them how to earn your trust.

Bullies are your kid’s number one enemies. They are the instigator of many problems of overweight kids. There are a lot of bullies everywhere, in school, classroom, playground, and sometimes your neighbor’s kids. So what can you do if your kids are bullied in school?

The first thing you should do is to let your kid handle it by themselves, at first. After all, they can always ignore the comments and insults, or they can just simply walk away. Sometimes these things are for the best, the more they take noticed of the people who are bullying them, the more these bullies attack them.

But there are also a periods when you have to act and step in. These are the times when your kid is already hurting or the situation is beyond your kid’s control. Being bullied is not normal, just because you kid is overweight. The following can help you handle your kid situations.

1.Talk to the teacher. As a mother you have the right to protect your kid from anything and anyone. You can ask the teacher to step in especially, if the bullies are your kid’s classmates or schoolmates.

2.Talk to the principal – If by any chance the teacher is unwilling or unable to assist in your kids problems, ask the principal instead. After all your kid has the right to go to school without the feeling of being threatened or bullied.

3.The support of the parents is very essential in this important time of their kid’s life. Most particularly, if they are trying to lose weight. Giving them support inside the home and encouraging them to continue their program, can ease the negative effects of being bulled when they’re not at home.

4.Bullies by nature are weak and insecure; they tend to pick people whom they knew will not fight them. Reminding these things to your kid is important so they will not feel pathetic.

5.Persuade your kid to always stay with their friends or groups. That why, bullies won’t have the chance to pick on your kid.

6.Teaching your kid to have more self confidence even if they are overweight, can greatly help them, and protect themselves from those bullies. As we all know, bullies always pick someone who they think are weak and easily scared.

The best and most important facts you can advice your kid, is to never get involved in any fight or arguments. The last thing your kid needs is to be involved in any kind of situation, where they can easily be considered as the instigator.

Remember that your kid and you as the parents have the right to complain those bullies to the head principal. Your kid has all the rights as those bullies to be at school with no one insulting and threatening them, just because they are overweight. If all else fails, you can always ask the parent of those bullies to intervene and reprimand their kids. I hope all this information can help protect your kid.

My Little Blackbird Kid(1)

This might be the last image of my little blackbird kids.

They all 3 are well and almost ready to leave.

It has been such a great joy for me to follow them. They have been so cute – confident – and they have touched my heart.

It will be a little sad when they leave the nest and us – but we gotta remember that: "Freedom is the greatest thing of all."

I wish all the best for them on their further way – my thoughts and a piece of my heart will fly with them.

Perhaps we are so lucky that the blackbird parents will give us a litter more this season. – Johanne

I’ve been a committed single dad of beautiful twins (Jack and Vanessa) for a number of years now. During that time, all my focus has been on doing whatever it takes to put a great roof over their heads, bread on the table and making each and every day as happy as possible.

That’s me in a nutshell – the Renaissance single dad – raising my kids amidst life’s eternal balancing act and I’d like to give my thoughts on what I perceive to be positive parenting in today’s modern-day, me-first, media-driven culture, specifically as it relates to being a single parent on Long Island.Building positive relationships with our kids and learning new and inventive ways to parent can help us connect with our children and develop more peaceful and interactive households. With all the extracurricular distractions out there, it is becoming increasingly more difficult to find quality time with our kids. Between sports practices, homework, video games, play-dates, and a steady diet of chauffeuring, the actual face-time we get with our kids is less than it has ever been. This is a fact that faces all parents – both single and married. With the current state of the economy, longer work hours, and competitiveness of Academia, there is just a lot less valuable time spent with our children. Call me unorthodox, but the perfect solution lies at our fingertips, is all around us, and is becoming the de facto mode of communiqué for everyone both young and old. Our social and occupational lives revolve around it and our kids are the first generation that grew up with it. You guessed it – the Internet. To be an effective parent to an adolescent, we need to know what is really happening in their child’s life. At an ever-increasing rate, their entire social landscape is documented online in some way or another – Instant Messaging, Social Networking, Virtual Worlds etc. Their connected at school, at home, and even some with mobile devices like phones and PDA’s. This brave new world of real time communication is not going away and it’s becoming a very strong part of our children’s adolescence. So in my view, parents need to know about it and understand it so that they can be there to guide their children through it….The Internet can be a wonderful resource for kids. They can use it to research school reports, communicate with teachers and other kids, and play interactive games. Kids who are old enough to punch in a few letters on the keyboard can literally access the world. But that access can also pose hazards. That’s why it’s important to be aware of what your kids see and hear on the Internet, who they meet, and what they share about themselves online. Just like any safety issue, it’s wise to talk with your kids about your concerns, take advantage of resources to protect them, and keep a close eye on their activities.Online tools are available that will let you control your kids’ access to adult material and help protect them from Internet predators. No option is going to guarantee that they’ll be kept away from 100% of the risks on the Internet. So it’s important to be aware of your kids’ computer activities and educate them about online risks. Many Internet service providers (ISPs) provide parent-control options to block certain material from coming into a computer. You can also get software that helps block access to certain sites based on a “bad site” list that your ISP creates. Filtering programs can block sites from coming in and restrict personal information from being sent online. Other programs can monitor and track online activity. Also, make sure your kids create a screen name to protect their real identity.Aside from these tools, it’s wise to take an active role in protecting your kids online. There are a few great websites out there that are geared to helping parents better communicate with their children online. They are designed to be kid-tested and parent-approved and do a wonderful job of creating a safe, easy environment to introduce our children to the wide world of computing over the Internet. My children are incredibly computer savvy and are usually tough critics when it comes to anything I recommend, especially when computer-related. However, there is one website that resonates with my family and probably transcends the fabric of every family. It’s called Scallyroo (www.scallyroo.com) and is the perfect website for parents with adolescent children, (tweens and teens).

Scallyroo is a free website, exclusively created to better bridge communication between parents and kids online by offering many tools intrinsic to the lives of our children, which we parents can monitor. Kids can set goals with their parents and parent can set goals and tasks for their kids, such as “If you do this, I will reward you with that”. This is extremely handy when motivating your kids to achieve something, or when getting them to learn responsibility. Oftentimes, I set tasks for my children using Scallyroo (like cleaning their room) and incentivize them with a reward for doing so. Scallyroo also enables parental oversight for many site features that kids come to expect with the advent of social networking websites like Facebook, although their package is a far more sterilized version, with privacy and safety being of paramount importance. Parents can peer into their child’s profile and help manage their account, such as accepting/rejecting friend requests and overseeing their daily calendar. The site also allows parents to merge their personal calendar with their children’s Scallyroo calendar, so their always on the same page. Parents can add or create events for their child’s calendar and can also grab events from their child’s calendar. It’s super-simple to use and keeps family life aggregated. This site really strikes the balance between what’s cool for kids and what parents want as far as online safety is concerned. Being a single parent, this site is a godsend. It allows me to monitor my two kids both on and offline and does it in a non-invasive way that’s critical to their ‘growing up.’Other good websites for parents and kids do exist, but none are able to strike such a delicate balance between what kids want and what parents need. Single Renaissance Dads or Moms the world over should look online to sites like Scallyroo.com for the unique parenting tools it provides, but also for teaching tools and fun activities it imparts on our children.
