Hi, Terry. I think this is an adorable picture and I would like to use it on my blog, http://www.royalenfieldmotorcycle.blogspot.com
I am especially interested in your recollections. Did you buy this reconditioned from Enfield after the war? Had you ridden them during the war? What position did RE fill in the marketplace in those days? Did you prefer the proven technology of the ex-WD to more up-to-date competitors? Or were those unavailable or too expensive? Again, a delightful picture. Sincerely, David in Fort Lauderdale
Hi David,
Yes, you may use this pic on your blog.
I bought this bike in 1953 from a dealer called Pride and Clarke, they had re-conditioned the machine and painted it in the normal civilian finish.
As a young engineering apprentice I could not afford the latest models, but this was a big advance on my first bike which was a 250cc Cotton – Blackburne with a hand gear change.
In the 1950′s Royal Enfield were one of the top British built bikes, along with Norton, AJS, Ariel, Matchless and BSA.
Regards
Terry

Thanks. I used this bike until 1956, then kept in in the back of my garage until 1977 when I sold it to a vintage motorcyle enthusiast
